Welcome to The Silkroad Flooring Haslemere, Surrey
We have been serving clients in Haslemere, London and the Home Counties for over 60 years having evolved from a family run haberdashery and upholstery business based in WeyHill, Haslemere. With an ambition to offer a specialist service based on quality, honesty and integrity, ‘Alan Baker Flooring’ was borne, rebranding over 15 years ago to its current incarnation: ‘The Silkroad’. The company ethos of quality and service has never waivered and we are proud of the reputation we have built up over many years of trading.
As we continue to progress, our founder, Alan Baker, has now semi-retired. Whilst stepping back from day-to-day operations, Alan now focuses his time and expertise on The Silkroad’s specialist projects.
Simon Kirby has now taken over the helm of the company and continues to build on the company’s core values and strong reputation, further reinforcing the business with the addition of his Liphook based company Liphook Carpet Warehouse– a sister company to The Silkroad.
Between us, we are now able to provide complete flooring solutions to suit all budgets.
Our Team
The dynamic team at The Silkroad are always on hand to offer advice, to inspire and to share their expert knowledge and years of experience within the industry. We are a friendly and approachable team who offer a consistent and professional service from concept to completion.
Alan Baker
Founder and Director of The Silkroad. After 60 years within the industry Alan has taken semi-retirement and has stepped away from the day-to-day running of the business. Alan now focuses his energy on the Silkroad’s specialist projects utilising his many years of experience in the field.
Simon Kirby
Simon has now taken over at The Silkroad with ambitious plans for growth as he capitalises on its reputation. He further strengthens and enhances the business by introducing his Liphook based company ‘Liphook Carpet Warehouse’. Simon divides his time between Haslemere and Liphook overseeing the smooth running of both operations.
Amy
Amy brings her many years of customer service experience to her ‘front of house’ role at The Silkroad, as well as ensuring the smooth running of the administrative and accounts side of the business. As Alan’s daughter, she has grown up in the flooring world and is perfectly placed to maintain and nurture our strong and positive client relationships. Her knowledge of interiors and flooring enables her to fully engage with our clients to guide them through the entire process with ease and professionalism.
Duncan
Duncan is a recent addition to the team and brings with him a wealth of administrative and customer service experience, gained after years within the creative industries. His love of design and visual arts provides an invaluable critical eye and his meaningful opinions really help our customers with their flooring choices.
Murphy
Part-time PR executive Murphy has a calming influence and a laid back attitude to customer relations, preferring instead the quiet life consisting of a nap (or two) behind the desk. Murphy’s selling skills are being honed – its work in progress…
